The Area
Fordingbridge is an old market town situated on the ancient river crossing point over the River
Avon on the western border of the New Forest. The town lies between the cathedral city of Salisbury
in the North, with its well known tall spire, and the market town of Ringwood to the south. Both
are within 20 minutes drive of Gorley Lodge B&B.
All the following places are within 30 minutes drive:-
Wimborne, with its Minster and miniature or 'toy' town;
Bournemouth with its conference facilities, pier and beaches;
Poole with its harbour and boating facilities - and Brownsea Island;
Christchurch with its Abbey ruins and Priory, the harbour and Hengistbury Head looking towards the
Needles and the Isle of Wight;
Lymington the well known yachtsmans paradise, with ferries to the Isle of Wight.
A little further afield to the south lie:- Corfe Casle on the Isle of Purbeck, with Swanage
and Studland Bay - a perfect picnic destination.
Further inland lie:- Many country houses, stately homes and gardens - Breamore House, Wilton,
Kingston Lacy and Beaulieu House with the National Motor Museum.
The prehistoric world heritage site of Stonehenge is also within easy reach. |
